Product News:
The AAA video game hit Crysis II has just been released for various systems. I was hired to do storyboarding but was also allowed to chip in on some designs, like the barriers in New York (the ones with the vertical bars) or the decontamination showers in the EMAT tents. You can find my name in the credits here at timecode: 6:45. It was as special treat for me to work with the talented team that provided the designs for this baby!
And hang out with “Al” indeed. ;-)
Battletech has a new House book on the shelves – the cover for House Liao was recently released and you can find it here.
It should be out already but due to various delays Mephisto #51 will be available in the first week of May 2011, finally. The wait was worth it though. We’ll have another fantastic A3-size fold out pin up by rising star Simon Eckert and a huge A2-size poster by yours truly showing a red dragon spitting fire. Cool? All this and a flurry of exclusive game articles illustrated by the best artists we could get from Switzerland, Austria and Germany. Europe FTW!
Late April will see the release of Weissblech Comics’s Horrorschocker #25 containing a six page short story penned by Levin Kurio (based on a story concept by Gunther Klippel). If the print house gods smile upon us we’ll see the release of “Ungeheuer!” in mid May.” Ungeheuer!” (we changed the title from “Magier, Monster, Meuchelmörder” on account of being too long) is my first full anthology book with horror stories by Levin Kurio, Josef Rother and Boris Koch, all drawn by me. Maybe I’ll have copies at my signing at Germany’s free comic book day: Gratis Comic Tag! Check out the cover on my Deviant Art site.

Just finished a dozen half pagers for Germany’s Shadowrun. Check out the Stadtkrieg Anthology “Blut und Spiele” when it hits the streets in summer! Cover by the talented Karsten Schreurs!
Next up for me are various seminars (covered below in Events and Deutschland News) and some design work creating the core visuals for a new tabletop game …about which I cannot say more at the moment except that the genre is RIGHT up my alley! :)

Next event I will attend is the Roleplay Con in Cologne (http://www.rpc-germany.de/) where I’ll also host two one-hour workshops. Seek more info on site at the booth of Mephisto Magazine in Hall 2 or in the workshop area. For English-savvy friends of art and graphic design I can recommend my “2D Character Design” workshop in room H8 in Bielefeld University next Tuesday. Both good opportunities if you seek a portfolio review, just ask me. And indeed there is the free comic book day on May 14th which should not be missed, especially with me signing in Bielefeld city’s Comic und Musikarchiv (no, dispite its name it’s a fully equipped comic store!). Not an event but check out the video podcast from Bieelfeld Universtiy with English subtitles!

Am Osterdienstag (26. April 2011) öffnet die Uni Bielefeld den Hörsaal 8 für alle Interessierten an zeichnerischem Characterdesign. 18 uhr geht’s los. Sprache wird Englisch sein, aber keine Angst, es gibt viele Bilder und Möglichkeit danach noch ein paar individuelle Fragen zu beantworten. Am Mittwoch 27. April 2011 werde ich in der Stadt Neuss in der Stadtbibliothek einen Zeichenworkshop für Kinder und Jugendliche (ab ca. 12 Jahre, Gebühr: nur 5,- Euro!)) anbieten. Für alle die in der Erwachsenenbildung der VHS noch keinen Platz finden konnten ist das DIE Chance ein paar fachliche Tipps zu kriegen und dabei noch Spaß zu haben! Geht von 11:30 bis ca. 18:00. Fragen dazu? Einfach mal auf die Website der Bibliothek gehen, da gibt’s alle Infos.
Bielefeld veranstaltet wieder eine lange Nacht der offenen Museen, die Nachtansichten. Auch ich bin dabei, und zwar im Huelsmann Museum wo ich kurze Einführungen ins Comic- und Figurenzeichnen gebe. Nur am Samstag 30. April, 2011 ab 18:30. Ein Blick ins Programm gibt es hier im PDF auf Seite 16!
Mein letzter VHS Kurs für 2011 ist der Vertiefungskurs, wo an 5 Terminen im Mai sehr viel individuelles Feedback gegeben werden kann. Jetzt fix anmelden es sind noch Plätze frei. Nicht vergessen, am 14. Mai ist Gratis Comic Tag und ich signiere die Weissblech-Comics Ausgabe, das neue Horrorschocker #25 und (hoffentlich) „Ungeheuer!“ im Comic und Musikarchiv Comicladen in Bielefeld, Herforderstr. 210.
